About Edu Mungan

I grew up in Sejiram, a small village in Kapuas Hulu, West Kalimantan. The ironwood stilts, the slow green river, the sound of cicadas falling silent at dusk, and the quiet rules our elders taught us – these are the roots of everything I write.

This blog has two purposes:

  • To share the culture, folklore, and daily life of Sejiram and the wider Dayak world through short stories, poetry, and personal experiences.
  • To practise and improve my English by writing regularly.

My main serial, Ash and Charcoal, Pale Crown, The Whispering Rafters, follows two brothers who keep the old protective rules – salt lines, red threads, cold iron, and silence after dark – while they cross thresholds that most people never see.

These stories are fiction. They grow from my childhood in Sejiram, Kapuas Hulu, and from the broader Dayak world of Borneo, but the places, protective rules, spirits, and events are shaped by memory and invention. I do not claim to document or speak for any specific Dayak community. Where real practices appear, they are filtered through personal experience and storytelling.

I welcome corrections, suggestions, and comments. Every message helps me write better.
